Hope, when it is honest, does not look like optimism. It looks like a small light kept lit through a long night — practical, ordinary, unafraid of the dark.

A book is not information. A book is a room. To read well is to enter and stay long enough for the room to change us — a slow work, undertaken again and again.

The mountains do not speak, and yet no one who has stood before them at dawn returns entirely unchanged. Silence, too, is a language — and the oldest one we know.
